Bedford Modern School staff and students are celebrating excellent GCSE examination results as students enjoyed success across a broad range of subjects. 98% of GCSE grades awarded were between A*-C compared to a national average of 69% with 29% of grades at A* and 63% at A*-A.

With each student receiving an average of eight A and two B grades, BMS continues to provide the highest quality education with almost a quarter of the 155 students achieving A* to A grades across the ten or 11 exams they sat.

Seven of Bedford Modern School’s top performers achieved straight A* grades including the best female student, Rose Cocks and the best male student, Matthew Rodgers, each securing 11 A* grades and an A in Additional Maths.

On receiving her results Rose Cocks said: “I was really nervous coming to open my results but I worked really hard and I’ve been lucky to have amazing teachers. I’m going to take AS Levels in Latin, Spanish, Maths and Economics. I think I’d like to read Economics with Spanish when I leave BMS. I’m looking forward to the Sixth Form now; I wanted to stay on here especially after today when BMS has taken me this far already.”

Matthew Rodgers added: “I’m going to be staying at BMS to study Maths, Biology, Chemistry and Physics in the Sixth Form with my ultimate goal being to study Medicine at University. I was a bit nervous opening my results but I’d worked hard and so I felt quite confident about my grades.”

Richard Rodgers, Matthew’s father, said: “I’m delighted with Matthew’s results, just as I was with his brother Ben’s A Level results last week. Both boys have worked extremely hard and BMS has supported them throughout.”

Michael Hall, Headmaster, said: “Once again our students have done themselves proud and I am delighted that all their hard work has paid off. 29% of grades at A* is impressive indeed. Notably, these young people attain very high grades as well as participating fully in sport, drama, music and other co-curricular activities. I look forward to seeing so many of them in our Sixth Form from September.”
